Reading Tuesday

It is Tuesday morning here and I am tired (literally) of staying up late to blog every night. So, while Connor is enjoying a snack, I am posting.

On Saturday morning, while at the farmer's market, I saw a lady off to the side with stuff spread out on bleachers. There was a mad crush of people around her, so I ambled over to see what she was offering. I picked up this book:
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

For a quarter!!! I could hardly believe my luck. I am like #248 on the wait list at Paperbackswap for this one. Yay! I started reading it already, even though I have others from the library sitting here. Waiting patiently. Boni was correct in suggesting this one to me, it is right up my alley so far.

We have an appointment today for "counseling" in regards to our new overseas transfer. Yippee. We went through this 3 years ago when we went to Guam. Basically they just want to make sure that we are financially responsible to handle living in a remote area, that we are aware of harsh climate changes, distance from family, etc. Yes, yes, yes. Move us already! It is nice to know where we are going (so we don't keep wondering), but the crummy part is now we get to wait. And wait.

Peace.

This Just In...

DH just called from work. He got an email from the Detailer saying that the overseas billots would be done by Thanksgiving, the higher priority ones would be done by Christmas and the others would be done in January.

Me: "So, are we considered overseas here in Saipan, or do we have to wait until Christmas when he does the higher priority ones?"

DH: "We are considered overseas now."

*pause*

DH: "Because we are going to Alaska."

Yep, we are in for a big change. Tropical Island of Saipan to Juneau, Alaska. Juneau was our 6th choice out of 8. Not what I was expecting. I was planning on going to Cincinatti, OH. We wanted to go to Alaska at some point, but not yet. Disappointed, yes. I guess that the bright side is that we aren't going somewhere that we totally didn't want.

This makes getting our stuff that is stored in our families homes in Illiniois a little more tricky.

Peace.

First Day & Our List!!

Since it is Nov 1 here, it is the official first day of NaBloPoMo, I hope that I can keep up! I have to figure out today if I am going to follow a schedule where every day of the week has a specific topic and I blog about that or if I am going to keep it random. Prolly random, suits me.

DH sent our list up yesterday. After much deliberation, here it is:

  1. Portsmouth, NH
  2. Cincinnati, OH
  3. Huntington, WV
  4. Portland, OR
  5. Ketchikan, AK
  6. Juneau, AK
  7. Seattle, WA
  8. Houma, LA
We decided that since there will be a few of us putting Portsmouth as our #1, we would let the Detailer figure it out. We should know in January-ish where we are going.

I know that it seems so strange to some people, but we do kind of get to pick where we are going. We usually end up putting places that aren't the most popular, so we usually get our first pick. Last time, we put Guam as our first pick. Not too many people want to go to Guam. There is a chance that you don't get any of your picks though. Say you only put 3 places down that you want to go...well, if there are people that are better qualified or have a higher priority than you that also put those places, chances are, you won't get any of them and will be sent somewhere you really don't want. That is why we put quite a few down. We really don't want to go to Long Island, NY, Miami, FL, Los Angeles, CA, etc. I don't know if it is the same in the other branches of military, but that is how it is in the US Coast Guard.

Here is the story about the earthquake yesterday. Kind of freaky that at the same time, one was happening in California. Hmmm.

Peace.
